A day of exploring the Vineyard and Valley Scenic Tour Route is sure to make you hungry. Here are some suggested restaurants to pull in and rest and grab some grub, all while experiencing the down-home hospitality of Tualatin Valley countryside.
One bite out of a Helvetia Tavern burger, and you will see why it continually lands on the top 10 list of best burgers around. This no-frills restaurant focuses on traditional, simple burgers, grilled sandwiches, fries and onion rings. For the vegetarians and pescatarians, the tavern has meat-free options, as well as fish and chips. Bring cash, as the tavern does not accept credit cards.
Located in a historic property in rural Hillsboro, Midway Firehouse Pizza is a family-friendly pizza restaurant. The firehouse them also gives way to fun and creative pizzas, such as Hot Fireman, Hook & Ladder and The Engine, which pair well with local beer and wine. For dessert, try its signature “Rebecca’s Iced Coffee,” a delicious coffee with ice cream.
Open for breakfast and lunch, the menu at South Store Café features house-made soups, salads, sandwiches, pastries and coffee drinks. Try the signature chicken artichoke soup for a tasty treat, or nosh on one of the cafe’s daily specials.
Tualatin Valley boasts a rich history of wine grape and wine production. From being home to some of Oregon's pioneering vintners, some of the oldest vines in the Willamette Valley can be found here.
Along the route, two interpretive panels offer a quick history lesson about the area’s history, bridging the area’s legacy with today’s modern culture.
In the 1860s the area’s outstanding agricultural reputation began drawing many new European settlers to northwestern Oregon, whose legacy is felt in settlements along the route.
