Three-Day Itinerary

Explore the riches of the Tualatin Valley, scenically situated between Portland and the Oregon Coast. Sample the tastes of the Tualatin Valley and discover wildlife at protected nature spaces, then drive to the pristine Oregon Coast with a day-trip to Tillamook County. Your journey starts here.

DAY ONE

Ponzi Vineyards, located in Sherwood, is one of the oldest wineries in Oregon. Its state-of-the-art winery and tasting room are a must-see for wine lovers.

The day begins with a morning walk along the trail at the Tualatin River National Wildlife Refuge. Walk along natural forests and landscapes and view birds and mammals native to the Pacific Northwest.

Next, travel along a portion of the Vineyard & Valley Scenic Tour Route to Smith Berry Barn and explore the seasonal offerings at this historic barn and country store, which offers fresh produce, gourmet foods, distinctive gifts, an espresso bar, and milkshakes made with fruit from the farm.

Enjoy lunch across the street at the South Store Café, a historic landmark housed in a century-old clapboard building. The café offers an array of pastries, sandwiches, and homemade soups.

After lunch, visit Ponzi Vineyards, one of Oregon’s pioneering wineries. Its state-of-the-art, gravity-flow winery features an upscale wine tasting room, with stunning views of the valley.

Sip wine and test your scent identification skills at Raptor Ridge Winery, a boutique family-run winery, named for the many families of raptors that share the winery’s 27-acre estate.

Head over to downtown Hillsboro and explore its Main Street area. Buy locally made art at Perks of Art, peruse the antiques a Le’Stuff or taste local wine at D’Anu Wine Bar.

Have dinner at Syun Izakaya, a popular sushi and Japanese restaurant dedicated to supporting local, organic produce growers and ranchers.

DAY TWO

The Tillamook Forest Center, located along Highway 6, retells the story of a historic effort after fires burn much of the Tillamook Forest.

Rise and shine for a day trip to the Oregon Coast. Travel along Highway 6 and stop at the Tillamook Forest Center, the region’s largest interpretive and educational center, which showcases the legacy of the historic Tillamook Burn and the monumental reforestation effort that’s part of Oregon’s history.

Continue on Highway 6 to Highway 101 and visit Tillamook’s delicious treasure, the Tillamook Creamery. Don’t forget to visit the ice cream counter for a cone with a scoop of one of Tillamook’s ice cream flavors and enjoy lunch at the on-site cafe, which serves up a menu of cheesy deliciousness, such as grilled cheese sandwiches and mac-and-cheese. Before you go, check out the gift shop for specialty cheese, souvenirs and other Oregon-made treats.

Before heading to the ocean, stock up on snacks with a visit to the Tillamook Country Smoker and peruse its wide selection of natural wood smoked beef jerky.

The gorgeous views of the Pacific Ocean await as you reach the Northern Oregon Coast. Drive along the 40-mile Three Capes Scenic Loop, which offers breathtaking views, hike along a trail, or do some crabbing and clamming in the Tillamook Bay.

After a day at the coast, return to the Tualatin Valley, and enjoy a hearty dinner at Copper River Restaurant in Hillsboro. The menu features a large selection of comfort foods, prepared with local ingredients and a Pacific Northwestern flair.

DAY THREE

The Rice Northwest Museum of Rocks & Minerals in Hillsboro has one of the largest collections of its kind in the Pacific Northwest.

Explore more of the Tualatin Valley countryside along the northern portion of the the Vineyard and Valley Scenic Tour Route. The route showcases the region’s pioneer and agricultural history.

Stop at the Rice Northwest Museum of Rocks and Minerals, which features one of the world’s finest collections of crystals from around the world. The collection is housed in a unique 1953 ranch-style home on the National Registry of Historic Places.
