Summertime Three-Day Tualatin Valley Adventure

Spend three days in the Tualatin Valley exploring all facets of this diverse destination.

DAY ONE: Brews, Tranquility & Theater

Arrive in Tualatin Valley in the afternoon.

Start your Tualatin Valley adventure with lunch and a flight of beer at Ridgewalker Brewing. Select an entree from the menu of pub-style favorites, and pair with a pint or a flight of Ridgwalker’s beers. With at least five brews on tap, this popular, rustic taphouse makes you feel right at home with its handcrafted wood tables.

Next, continue your Tualatin Valley adventure with a walk through Fernhill Wetlands. Walking paths take you through this pristine birding area, and is accentuated by the calm, tranquil atmosphere of the Water Garden, designed by renowned landscape architect Hoichi Kurisu.

Head into downtown Hillsboro and enjoy dinner and a show. Dining options include The Venetian, Amelia’s Mexican Food, and Pizzario. Dine before or after checking out one of the live, professional theater Bag&Baggage productions at The Vault, or see a community theater performance at the HART Theatre.

DAY TWO: Trees, Sushi & Wine

Experience one of the best-designed zip line tours in the Pacific Northwest with Pumpkin Ridge Zip Tour, featuring a playground of zip lines through the beautiful forest. This zip line tour is an amazing way to experience the natural landscape of Oregon and the Pacific Northwest. From platform to platform through the forest canopy, you will soar past tall Douglas Firs and Western Red Cedars, experiencing the forest from a viewpoint usually exclusive to birds.

Afterward, enjoy lunch at SaWa Donburi, Biscuitology or Bites Restaurant on Main Street in downtown Forest Grove.

No visit to Tualatin Valley is quite complete without a stop at a winery (or two). First, visit David Hill Vineyards and Winery, where you can sample a diverse variety of red and white wines, some crafted with some of the oldest vines in the Willamette Valley. “Old vines” means rich, flavorful wines. (Reservations are recommended)

Next, hop over to Apolloni Vineyards and taste this acclaimed winery’s traditional Pinot Noir and Italian-style wines. The 40-acre vineyard’s location provides an ideal growing climate for Pinot Noir, Pinot Gris and Pinot Blanc varietals. (Reservations are recommended)

After a day of exploration, relax with a decadent early dinner at Out Aza Blue, with choice pairings of local wines. Executive chef Gabriel Barber plans his menu with fresh local ingredients in mind and is inspired by his world travels. The restaurant overlooks the soothing Gales Creek. Calling this restaurant a hidden gem doesn’t really do it justice.

DAY THREE: Berries and Views

Jump-start the day at South Store Café. Enjoy lunch in a 100-year-old clapboard building set in the northern Willamette Valley wine country, situated along the Vineyard and Valley Scenic Tour Route (across the street from Smith Berry Barn). South Store Café offers a full coffee bar and a variety of pastries, homemade soups, sandwiches and more.

After lunch, go across the street to visit the Smith Berry Barn. Pick your own berries or choose from the ready-picked produce. Step inside the historic barn and browse the selection of gourmet food products, distinctive gifts, kitchen goods, candles and teas. Cap off the visit with a coffee drink made fresh at the espresso bar or satisfy a berry craving with a milkshake made with fruit fresh from the farm.

Next, get a bird’s eye view of Tualatin Valley with a helicopter tour by Oregon Helicopters. See Tualatin Valley’s lush landscape, where, from the sky, you’ll have a great view of the region’s beautiful vineyards, fertile crop land, coastal forests, and hi-tech corridors.
