A One-Day Tualatin Valley Family Adventure
Tualatin Valley is not only fun for the adults, but kids can get in on the action here, too. Visit a u-pick farm, fly through the trees, and enjoy meals prepared with farm-fresh ingredients. A visit here is not only fun, but can also be educational.
Jumpstart the day with a stop at the South Store Café for a breakfast sandwich made from locally farmed ingredients. Set in a clapboard building more than 100 years old, this quaint, wine country café is a popular stop for locals and visitors alike.
After breakfast, stop in the Smith Berry Barn and pick your own berries (summer months) or apples (late-summer and fall). Shop in the quaint country store and buy gourmet foods—including jams, butters and honey– peruse the kitchen goods, and smell the candles and body soaps and lotions. Don’t forget to get a milkshake, made fresh with fruits picked from the farm.
Drive along part of the scenic Vineyard & Valley Scenic Tour Route, stopping for pictures along the way.
Next, venture to the town of Gaston and enjoy a thrilling adventure at Tree to Tree Aerial Adventure Park. Explore this fun park, located near Henry Hagg Lake, and try the aerial obstacle course, racing zip lines and “monkey grove” climbing tree, or simply enjoy a zip line tour through the trees.
After lunch, explore the rural and agricultural side of Tualatin Valley. Find quilt barns along the Quilt Barn Trail of Oregon’s Washington County, pick berries, play in the kids’ play area or grab a berry lemonade or smoothie at Unger Farms’ Farm Store.
Before dusk, explore nature’s goodness at Jackson Bottom Wetlands Preserve. With miles of walking trails to explore—and to view birds, including bald eagles—and an educational center, this jewel near downtown Hillsboro is fun for kids and adults of all ages.
Last, but not least, wind down a busy day with a visit to Topgolf. Grab a bite (and the adults can have a cocktail, wine or beer) and try your luck at the state-of-the-art driving range. Using state-of-the-art technology, hit golf balls and try to hit the targets for points.
