5 Things to do in Sherwood

Sherwood is a growing city with old town charm. It’s one of the fastest growing wine destinations in the norther Willamette Valley and home to farms where you can get fresh produce and pick your own.

If you find yourself staying near the city of Sherwood during your getaway in Oregon’s Tualatin Valley, don’t miss these popular, local attractions.

1. Visit wine tasting rooms

J. Rallison Cellars is a boutique winery with a dedication to single vineyard red and white varietals. With a focus on small production and the viticulture practice, J. Rallison Cellars features a vast array of varietals. Located in Downtown Sherwood, the tasting room is close to coffee shops, restaurants, and tap rooms to visit after wine tasting.

Since 2005, Barking Frog Winery has produced small batches of handcrafted Pinot Noir from the Willamette Valley as well as Syrah, Sangiovese, and Cabernet Sauvignon from Washington grapes. This Sherwood-based winery opened its newest tasting room in Old Town Sherwood in 2021. Open Saturday and Sunday 1-5 p.m. by reservation.

Situated on the south side of the Chehalem Mountains, Blakeslee Vineyard Estate produces wines that beautifully represent the terroir of the region—offering Pinot Noir, Chardonnay, Riesling, Rosé of Pinot Noir and White Pinot Noir. Tastings are poured inside the piazza where the glass doors can be opened up onto a spacious patio, and picnic tables are also available, weather permitting. Open 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. daily, until 7 p.m. on Fridays. Reservations are required.

2. Drink coffee

Symposium Coffee in Downtown Sherwood serves up local coffee as well as an extensive collection of spirits to create handcrafted coffee cocktails. Enjoy Flat & Wire Coffee, Stumptown Coffee, or Steven Smith Teamaker Teas, expertly brewed into a wide array of delicious beverages. Sandwiches, baked goods and other nibbles are also available. Open daily for outside seating and to-go.

3. Drink beer

Smockville Brewhouse opened its doors in 2017 pairing locally crafted beer and comfort food. The Brewhouse is a high-end gastro-pub and brewery featuring unique craft beers made on the premises. The tap menu features the onsite-brewery, 12-11 Brewing as well as local beer and wine. The hearty food fare includes burgers and sandwiches, salads and starters. Open daily.

4. Explore farms

Surrounded by a Christmas tree farm, Sleighbells is a world-class gift shop, open July-December. Sleighbells has a large selection of Christmas ornaments and decorations as well as Thanksgiving and Halloween decorations that make perfect souvenirs or gifts to remember your trip.

The Red Berry Barn, a farm and farm store offers a variety of berries and vegetables grown naturally and sustainably. Pick your own berries in the u-pick farm, or buy ready-picked berries and vegetables, including 7 different berries, currants, pickling cucumbers, melons, tomatoes and more. Open daily at 9 a.m., March-December.

5. Explore the Outdoors

At the Tualatin River National Wildlife Refuge, visitors can see nearly 200 species of birds; more than 50 species of mammals; 25 species of reptiles and amphibians; and a wide variety of insects, fish and plants. It’s a place where people can experience and learn about wildlife and their habitats. The 3.1-mile main nature trail is open year-round, is wheelchair friendly and has interpretive signage along the route. The Refuge also boasts seasonal trails that are open May-September only. Open daily dawn-dusk.
